RJ Jones, a physical therapist assistant at Life Care Center of Jacksonville, Florida, received Life Care Centers of America’s Southeast Division Whatever It Takes And Then Some Award on Aug. 29, 2018, for his dedication to customer service.
Executives from Life Care awarded Jones a cash prize during an awards ceremony at the company’s headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee. He was chosen from among hundreds of associates in the Southeast Division and was one of only eight associates from Life Care’s more than 200 facilities nationwide to receive the award.
While Jones does his work well daily, he was honored for a special act of caring in 2017.
An associate at the facility rides her bicycle to work every day, and when the bike broke and Jones found out she was walking to work in the dark every morning, he bought her a brand-new bike.
When he was asked why he did that, Jones shared that at one point in his life he had to walk to work too, until someone showed kindness to him. He wanted to pass that kindness on.
"I believe that when you’ve been given something, you have to give,” said Jones. “It truly is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program rewards associates for extraordinary acts of kindness. Monthly awards are presented in Life Care facilities nationwide based on nominations from fellow associates, family members, residents and guests. Each facility then chooses an annual winner, from which the divisional winners are selected.
“Dedicated caregivers routinely go far above and beyond their job descriptions, and RJ Jones certainly demonstrates by his example their professionalism and compassion for the residents they serve,” said Beecher Hunter, Life Care president. “We are proud of RJ and the thousands he represents in their selfless approach to the needs of others.”
